I think everyone should calm down.

    We’re webmasters, not slot machines.

Even if the US government started BOMBING online casino datacenters and killing gamblers, we’d still figure out a way to make a living.

We might know quite a bit about casinos and gambling, but we all know quite a bit about webmastering too. Otherwise, we wouldn’t make any income in such a competitive sector.

Does it feel bad to see potential incomes streams dry up? Yep. Do I feel like I may not get the income I expected from previous labor and monetary investment? Yep. Am I going to look in the paper for a job? hahahahaha. Not even close.

Even if the internet vanished tomorrow, I’m sure most of us would have been better off.

I’ve made a ton of friendships in this vertical that I wouldn’t have made otherwise.

Let’s keep this in perspective. Crappy? Maybe. End of the world? C’mon. Most of us will be selling mortgages in a week if we feel like it.

Even IF online gambling comes to an end life will go on. Most of us will move to other market sectors and continue to make a damned good living online.

    Hi Oneguy2nv, Dominique, and Professor,
I agree there is no need to panick. Over the past few years we knew that there was a great possibility that this would happened. What we need is clarification of how long we have till we possibly may need to take down our gambling portals. Some are saying it will take a year for this new law to take effect. I am not really sure at this point. No one wants to be premature in doing this or late and arrested. This new law does clearly make it illegal to have links to online casinos and poker rooms once this passed bill becomes law. I think all us USA affiliates want to make the right decission in regards to this. It’s been a good run and I am ready to move on when it is time. The Professor and I have know for years that eventually this day would come.
The Professor and I are curious as to what course the affiliate programs and online casino will take in the near future. Will some pull out of the US market soon? What effect is this going to have on US players? How long will we still receive revenue? It sucks this has happened, but now that it has it will be interesting to see what happens now. Wishing my good friends here the very best.

That’s true but it may be hard to find another niche that we all love as

much as this one …. about online gambling … you can BET your house

your spouse, your dog, and all your investments that it will be alive and well

in the United States FOREVER … the question is who will have a piece of it.

.. we must remember the banks lend the Vegas casino big boys BILLIONS of

dollars yearly so they really don’t care about us as customers and when

push comes to shove they will side with the Wynns and The Donalds of

this world to push everybody else out and keep the cake to themselves

in the long run … but the game is not lost yet and there may

    be hope. :drunk2:

Yeah, it looks like there are many different ways this could shake out. Really, it all comes down to what the justice department will do. I’m not encouraged by the way they’ve been treating visiting sportbook employees lately.

I called Neteller today just to see if they had any idea how this might effect them. The customer service rep on the phone had no idea what I was talking about. Of course maybe they are told to act that way, or maybe they really are in the dark.

I went to the Senate bill that passed and I can not find the language at all. I talked to a friend who had the same problem. None of the news articles I read actually link to the bill.

We have numerous links to the bill posted in the public areas. Read pages 213 – 244 of the bill for the Internet Gaming Language.

    Hi all,

Sad news for certain. Couldn’t come at a worse time for myself and I’m sure others feel the same.

Is there a thread that covers exactly what we need to do to avoid persecution? Or is this all too early yet to be asking this question?

What we need is clarification of how long we have till we possibly may need to take down our gambling portals

agreed! Needless to say I’m worried but not ready to jump a ship that may still be a safe haven for some time yet to come. I’m looking to wiser minds than myself for this answer. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Personally I feel it would be safe to continue a gambling portal, but only promoting sites that do NOT accept US players any longer.
That way you can always claim you are not targeting US players, but only other countries where online gambling is legal. If none of your links are to sites that allow US players you should be safe !?
Question is, is this going to be profitable. Most likely not for the vast majority of portal webmasters.

    Good point GG.

just a few thoughts … please correct me where I’m wrong.

people will be able to get to nearly any kind of website they want if they use a proxy site?

there are currently off-shore banks that issue credit/debit cards?

if the above is true … what’s to keep from using that off-shore bank to either directly or indirectly (ie using a NETeller device of some kind, though not perhaps NETeller) as a way of transfering funds to and from … for people here in the states.

finally … I think that online gambling in the states will not die. It may die in terms of places that accept US players … down to less than reputable names (currently. in time I think reputable places will arise amongst the many obvious scam places that will take advantage of the situation) and it may die to those of us as affs unless we transfer ownership of our domains to someone in a country where it is legal to have such sites … and granted the income may at least for a while die down to near nothing. But I just don’t see it happening that all avenues for people who want to play … and there will be those who have enjoyed playing online all these years that won’t choose to just give up … granted they will be a small % … but that % will grow as time passes and word spreads of available options to continue playing …

if anything I think what may happen from all of this is that those appethetic US players who didn’t do anything when they had the chance … will speak up and be counted to where the shown interest will bring the states around to making it legal and then we’ll see Vegas rear its lovely head

and agreed none or very little of that will be advantageous to the majority of aff websites but I’m just trying to get a picture of what may or may not come in the not so far distant future.

I just can’t seem to accept the idea that the poker fans alone won’t be terribly put off by not being able to log in and play online to the point that there won’t be enough interest (finally) shown that if forces the issue with the powers that be.

further the reason I bring all this up is that while we may or may not have a future as aff webmasters there still exists the possiblity that some of our sites can still exist and make money thru charging for ads albeit perhaps these ad spots will not be allowed to be sold to companies outside the states.

*please don’t tear my head off for stupid assumptions. I’m like all the rest and find myself suddenly swimming in a whirlpool and grabbing at any hand hold I think may exist. Thank you in advance for that consideration.
