If the bill passes will we have to shut down our sites?
September 28, 2006 at 12:20 pm #707704vladcizsolMemberThat will be a difficult decision that each of us will have to make. I hear a variety of responses from people I talk to. Some say yes they will shut down. Some say they will “take their chances” and dont believe that enforcement will occur, still others are planning to physically move offshore.
My biggest concern is that if the legislation goes through a number of things will happen which make the business unattractive financially and probably unviable.
1. The new legislation will severely restrict the transfer of funds by banks. If players cant pay or withdraw and if affiliates cant receive commission payments then the business will quickly draw to an end for most of us.
2. The ISPs like AOL, Time Warner, Comcast, Earthlink, Net Zero etc… will have filtering in place which will prevent US citizens from accessing our sites and the casinos, poker rooms, bingo halls and sportsbooks. That kills the business in one quick move.
3. Despite statements otherwise, the US market generates more then 80% of the revenues in Online Gaming. Without access to that pool of players most casinos will fail within a year. Yes, I know there is Europe and Asia, but despite everyones best efforts to tap into those up to now (we have all tried for years) they still make up less then 20% of the business. What makes anyone think those numbers would dramatically change any time soon? You certainly wont have enough players to support the current number of casinos. And the number of affiliates that could earn a living wage doing what we do would be cut by AT LEAST 80%.
Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope we dont have to cross these bridges. Time is actually on our side this year, so keep a positive outlook and I am betting we will miss the axe once again.
September 28, 2006 at 12:39 pm #707706AnonymousInactiveQuite clear.
That is the reason because I can not understand the poker rooms and online casino sales during this year in the 100’s millions.
I think that the percent of americans buying online is also applicable to other industries like meds, herbal and enhancement for instance.
Not only the casinos are in the radar.
There’s already a bill in the Congress to regulate or ban the Online Prescriptions. My feeling is that a lot of activities will follow this path of regulation.
I mean all those involving the public trust.
Not only adiction is on the table.September 28, 2006 at 1:45 pm #707711AnonymousInactiveIn theory we should probably all have to shut down our sites now as Louisiana stae law makes it illegal for us to operate a gambling website on the Internet if a Louisiana resident can see it!
Such is the ridiculous world we live in.
September 28, 2006 at 1:54 pm #707712AnonymousInactiveIf you feel bound be the law in Louisiana, that is.
September 28, 2006 at 2:20 pm #707713AnonymousInactiveWill they shut down all gambling portal all over the world??

No, they dont have to. All they have to do is shut down US CITIZENS ACCESS to those portals. That can and most likely will be done if the legislation passes in its current form.
Ridiculous? No, technically possible and I believe already tested and ready to go at the ISP level if and when this legislation passes into law.
September 28, 2006 at 3:23 pm #707725AnonymousInactiveI do not live in the US but can’t help wondering.. Is all this happening because G.W Bush is a republican?
What if the next president will be a democrat?.. would it help?

I personally donate thousands of dollars to the DNC and other Democratic fund raising committees with that in mind. Guys if we dont spend money now to help the right candidates get in then this business is doomed. If the right wing nuts dont get us this year, they will get us eventually if we allow these scoundrels to stay in power.

The Professor is right of course … they can shut it down at the ISP
level in minutes … just as easily as you flicking a light switch … guess who
pioneered this type of technology for the Chinese government.

You are much more optimistic than I am! Do you think anyone even counts those freaking votes?
Considering what happened in the 2000 election, I think it’s pretty obvious “The Powers That Be” put whoever they want in that almighty position!
The American people didn’t want G.W. … but guess what … “OOPS .. our bad .. I think we may have miscounted the votes in Florida”.
WHAT A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT !!! . :bullshit: . !!! .. :bullshit: . !!! . :bullshit:
September 28, 2006 at 4:07 pm #707734AnonymousInactiveHi
I dont know much about all this – have been trying to follow it for a while now.
Would it not be good if all of us sent a mail to our mailing lists with a well thought out and wriiten email that all of us can use stating how the governmant are taking away US citizens rights of what then can and cant do in there own spare time etc and how this could lead to all sorts of banning – i mean what next ???? ban pornography as it promotes underage sex or what.
Reminds me of the larry flint book i read – although he did have alot of publications and major newspapers on his side to protect freedom of speech etc.
Anyways back on point….. or has you guys done this already(send out mass email to our lists and also asking them to email to friends etc)
