    Hi all,

After a couple of beers I started the usual buying random domain names, and this time bought a couple of gaming ones……

    http://www.winonroulette.com ( & .co.uk)

    http://www.spreadthebet.com ( & .co.uk)

Now im getting quite into the idea of actually putting a couple of sites up, sadly I know zip about how to do this (but resources like this forum are a great inspiration :) , fortune has it I know someone who does gaming sites for a living – hes a busy man though and it could be a few months before we get round to doing much with them, and I would like to do them properly when the time comes,

    so….

what would be the best place to start? – keyword rich holding pages / dmoz etc ?

For http://www.winonroulette.com I was thinking tutorial style site with links through to the (online) casinos, pretty straight forward, is there any £ in listing to ‘real’ casinos?

http://www.spreadthebet.com any ideas? – reading up like mad on the technicalities of the game – still not tempted to bet myself yet though :)

Im not in any big rush to make £ off the sites (see it more as a challenge at this stage), was figuring more on getting the content right before signing up as an affiliate with anyone

cheers for any pointers – im amazed at how helpful folks are, given it seems to be a pretty competitive field – guess there must be enough £££ to go round :)

Mainly general advice, but start slow. Spend a lot of time reading on the net, get a to do list going, and focus on going through it, look at “competitors”, see what they’re offering, and how you can better it. Spend some cash at Wordtracker for a day trial, and find some of the less popular keywords to do with roulette, and market for them.

But mainly, read everything you can, these forums are an incredibly valuable resource, and then you’ll find you have a whole whack of new questions :)

    Hi,

(do as I say not as I do..) with that in mind, I wish I’d have learned the SEO game early on so my knowledge of it could have grown with the rest of the process.

just a thought on what i think I did wrong.

    good luck!

Start slow – read lots of material on SEO, wait for that first Real Money Player!

cheers for the pointers so far,….

well ive managed the start slow bit, nothing but reading (and more reading) at the moment, I didnt realise just how many people are out there stealing content, scraping sites etc etc !

I think I will just put up a couple of holding pages for these sites in the mean time so they get indexed, and continue studying the intricies of spread betting , CFD’s etc so when I do eventually get going the content might even be worth reading :)

a few dozen more hours to master the basics of seo and I might be off the staring blocks!

that depositing player seems a long way off yet……………

Welcome to the “I bought a few domain names, now what???” Club! I’m discovering just building the freakin site takes forever, let alone the SEO. I’m trying to break down my menu by type of game; takes forever to go back through each affiliation I’ve signed up with and see what the names of their blackjack games are, for example. Then back again for slots. Video Poker. I’m not sure I’m attacking this the right way. Right now, it’s pretty much a banner farm and lots of “place text here” stuff. All while trying to absorb to plethera of information on this board, who to avoid, who to keep… ya da ya da ya da. I’ve narrowed down my affiliations by first eliminating anyone who has negative carryforward. After that… dunno.

Not banners! Text links are said to convert more. That was going to be my initial mistake, till I read around here that text links DO work better.Maybe an occasional banner, but I THINK, not promising anything, but a small, square banner and THEN ,underneath, a TEXT LINK ,then review, or updated information paragraph right under should do.A review, if possible would really be great.

text links do convert best, especially if they are part of an article or content.
Banners in the top half of the page fold convert better than ones at the bottom half. I add some text under (or over) the banner sometimes. I also try an avoid flash banners.
