Hello all! Well, I jumped in the mix by picking up a decent domain name for casinos. At first I was just thinking the name would be a small investment, with the possibility of selling it down the line. But then I started thinking about all the searches, all the traffic and money being funneled into online gaming, and so I think I’m going to take a stabe at creating an affiliate portal. I mean, why not? Maybe I can make a few bucks? I already make some money online, so why not branch out into affiliates?
So, then I started learning a few things, such as Google’s/Yahoo’s ban on Adwords for casinos, and now this case up in Washington. I’m in California and I’m wondering if there is anything that would prevent me from going forward? I figure worst case scenario I can just put the domain up for sale on Sedo or something. But it would be nice to score a little slice of pie if I can! Perhaps it’s a gamble to go for it. How appropriate.
Any words of wisdom?

August 17, 2006 at 11:11 am #702465AnonymousInactiveIf you are attracted to the biz, go for it. I wouldn’t worry too much about legislation. I started in February telling all my clients not to worry. We are 20 working days away from all bills dying. It’s a yearly tradition at this point.
As to state law, you won’t find California joining the ranks of Washington state anytime soon. That was a lobby play. The Indian casinos have more pull up there–among other influences.
Like Dominique said, put in those hours. Don’t think you are just going to put up a 4 page website and go party.

This will be a side project to start, but as I go I’ll give more attention to it. I know it’s not something that will happen overnight! Actually, I don’t really have ANY expectations whatsoever, which I think is a very good thing. Anything that I might be able to generate, even if it’s small and doesn’t happen for a year, will be ok with me. I do have a few good things going for me, as I am already a webmaster of sorts, and I’ve got a decent amount of experience with most of the nuts and bolts of site building. I think the hardest thing for me will be writing the articles and reviews. (well, Marketing is another weakness, I’ll admit ) That’s going to take some learning and some time, but I’ll get there.
Thanks again, Cheers!
