This is an interesting move I think. Perhaps (hopefully) this is an attempt to organize webmasters to activism? He has always been pro-active with this stuff. I for one am glad to see it.

Yes, I do have an interest in organizing webmasters. I’m interested in trying to raise the standards in the industry, providing facilities to help promote ethical behanvior in the industry both on the part of affiliate programs and on the part of portal webmasters, and to help those who are unethical get what they deserve.
Right now the project we are working on is one of building a good directory of portal websites that includes both GPWA and CAP members. It will make it easy to find websites operated by other members, and to get in touch with them about working together. As one example, to find topically related sites that might be interested in link exchanges.
I’ve spoken with the professor about our plans, and I have his support for including CAP member sites.

I am glad to see cooperation.

Thanks Dom and 4flush. I’m trying hard to focus the GPWA on new initiatives complementary to those already in place by GPWA, CAP, and APCW – that should allow us to collectively provide the most value to the portal webmaster and affiliate program community as a whole.

And we certainly won’t do anything that would provide any sort of clue as to the actual identities of anyone – how could we – we don’t generally know that ourselves, and don’t really want to be in a position where we do know that.

Glad to hear that you stepped in and purchased the GPWA.
I am posititve that this will give the GPWA a much needed boost and if we can combine the efforts of CAP together with GPWA it will only make this a more solid venture for affiliates and the industry.Michael..you’ve got our full support on GPWA!

when the :hitthefan , we are all in the same boat afterall.
Disagreements date way, way back, no point in dwelling in the past when the present and future are very much alive and we need to share information and ideas, now more than ever.
Besides, lots of GPWA members have been posting at CAP for a long time, and vice versa. Nothing new there, really.
October 1, 2006 at 9:20 pm #708324AnonymousInactiveNice move. Glad to see this coming together approach. I have registered at GWPA, but haven’t posted yet. Need to become active there as well.

October 2, 2006 at 2:59 am #708397AnonymousInactiveAffiliates will definitely benefit from CasinoCity’s involvement. If CasinoCity can sue the DOJ, it can and may just sue erring affiliate programs.
GPWA membership has pretty strict standards, members sites are scrutinized thoroughly.
October 2, 2006 at 3:05 am #708398AnonymousInactiveI think that it is imperative in today’s legal landscape that there is some organization & cooperation here otherwise we are going to remain mired in the BS affiliate programs & have our legitimate business swiped from us by the BH’ers of the world. Glad to see that someone is working in a positive direction for all of us.

This couldn’t have been a better idea! I would love to see a more cooperative effort between CAP and the GPWA. A good thing for the industry and webmasters. I signed on at the GPWA not too long ago partly with this vision in mind. I would also include the APCW as well and two others.
We must change with the Industry. This would for sure be a step in the right direction!
WE are a scatterd flock each flying in our in direction. The industry is changing and I say it is about time as soveriegn competitors we should all unite. This will provide a much stronger voice than currently present.
AXL I know where your coming from. People do tend to take sides perhaps out of self interest or whatever. I have seen this myself many times. Perhaps this may be different where people are a little more honest and a little less self serving.

I think that some people will take sides as you say, and that some people will see the bigger picture.
What I know is that personally I’m someone who tries very hard not to see sides where there doesn’t need to be sides, and to consistently take the longer-term bigger picture view. I firmly believe this whole industry is not a zero-sum game, and that working cooperatively together helps get us all to a better place over the longer term.
I think most of the time when people don’t take the bigger picture view it is because they don’t understand it – not because they are opposed to it. So one of my goals is to work to create infrastructure where the benefits of the longer term view are more visible. But equally important is to create infrastructure where the benefits of what is good over the long term helps over the short term, and what is bad over the long term hurts over the short term.
So you will find that I will focus on efforts to increase visibility of good and bad actions, to create codes of conduct, and to provide a platform where good and bad conduct is visible as a source of reward or punishment. Forums can do this to a limited extent, but their structure does not support doing it very well, so this is an area where I anticipate making a big difference over time with the right projects.
In my opinion, the GPWA made a lot of mistakes in the past that I do not intend to repeat. However, I believe they made at least one good decision. And that was the decision to have a process for determing that private member portal webmasters followed some basic ethical guidelines – things like not stealing the content of others and not being spammers. That’s a foundation I believe in and can use as the basis for building something that will be a credit to the industry.
