This free site http://www.botsense.com has a good list of malicious bots and will help you to generate a .htaccess file to block them

I’ve tried botsense.com and have added many more bad robots to the list. They’ve made some difference because my bandwidth level dropped quite significantly after I added the updated htaccess file.

I don’t know why oncaga is concerned with a theif taking his site content. What we should be doing as webmasters is constantly editing and changing our site content. Even if someone uses your site’s content and template word for word, your site will eventually be different to theirs do to your updated changes. This a very minor hardship we all deal with. I wouldn’t make an issue of it. We’re all in the same boat when it comes to creating and updating our content. A new site isn’t going to be as appealing to a theif as an old good site with high search engine rankings. I wouldn’t be concerned about this.

:drink: Placing codes on your site to deter malicious bots they do not allow will only take up html bytes. To have a fast site, one of the things to constantly do is to reduce your pages bytes. See 7th paragraph down at Search Engines and Free Submissions starting with “During the Voting Swap…”
