This is a topic that I’ve meant to raise for, quite literally, years.
The quality and value of sportsbook/bookmakers landing pages is shockingly poor and I can’t understand why.
Let’s take an example. GameBookers have a great World Cup football promotion running where you can get a free World Cup team shirt if you sign up and bet £30 or more on a team to win the World Cup. This is an absolute winner (World Cup shirts cost around £40, incidentally) and should convert extremely well. 10% conversion – that would be realistic.
However, click the link through to GameBookers and you won’t see any mention of this promo on the homepage. Nor is it featured on the registration pages. Um…what gives. You create a great promotion and then don’t follow through with a nice, clear trail on the website. Hence, lower conversions than expected.
And it’s not just GameBookers – most sportsbooks and online bookmakers fall down on this.
InterChamps – as another example – are offering the chance to win World Cup Final tickets. Click the link on their homepage and off you go to the official FIFA site. No details of how to enter, how to win, etc.
This stuff makes me want to weep. Why do they do it ? Surely a few proper landing pages with the offers explained clearly isn’t too much to ask. About the only online bookie that does it right is SportingOdds and they have their own issues.
God save us from sports betting sites.

They did build special landing pages – but the affiliates you’ve visited (or yourself?) have not got off their arse to use them.
:popcorn:Here’s the normal landing page …
GameBookers – Sports Betting Made SimpleHere’s the shirt landing page …
GameBookers – Open an account for a free World Cup shirtAnd here’s my promo page telling people all about it.
Sports Fans can get a FREE World Cup ShirtNeedless to say – I’m converting 50 customers a month with this one – but as you say – you’ve gotta put in a bit of work as an affiliate.
:clapper:(oh and the main page of Gamebookers does mention the promo – just in tiny letters down the right hand side of the page – about midway).
:hehe:May 16, 2006 at 9:10 am #692427AnonymousInactiveAh, found the mention of it on the GameBookers.com site. I’d looked a couple of days ago and didn’t see it then. It’s hardly obvious, is it ?
As for the landing page – I signed up as a GameBookers affiliate a couple of weeks back, specifically to promote this offer. They never mentioned that URL in the sign up email.
Still, I think my point stands for most sportsbook promotions, though.
May 19, 2006 at 7:32 pm #692718AnonymousInactiveYou`ve got a point there and usually bookmakers landing pages are about languages offered etc. I think they don`t need them or don`t like them otherwise there would be plenty.
Concerning Gamebookers: they didn`t have a landing page for years only recently they implemented them (I know of two). The free World Cup shirt offer made it to their main page only week or two ago and I found it odd too but as Gooner said there are special links available pointing to that particular offer landing page. So, it takes a bit of work but you got to put some effort to get good results.
cheers

Most UK sportsbooks now know the importance of having a ‘free bet’ landing page to increase signups, and the majority/most well known now have a landing pages for their affiliates.
Coral, Totesport, Bluesq, Betfred, Skybet, Betfair, VCbet all have landing pages.
May 31, 2006 at 8:14 pm #693888AnonymousInactiveEven though our sportsbooks are aimed at the US market and we offer USD we have still created several landing pages for affiliates to use for the world cup.
Here is a sample of the pages on offer:-

http://www.mybookie.com/AutoLandingPage/landingPage_Sports.asp?Site=1

I would be interested to know your thoughts on our landing pages for the World Cup and where we can improve.
May 31, 2006 at 8:25 pm #693892AnonymousInactiveHow big is sportsbook betting in the States Simon?
It seems that ‘going down the bookies’ is a part of the culture in the UK, and of course we have the Grand National horse race, where most of the nation puts a bet on. I suppose sportsbook betting in the US is only legal in certain states.
Is it getting more popular tho generally in the US? Is it on an upward curve?
BTW your landing pages are :clapper:
May 31, 2006 at 9:14 pm #693896AnonymousInactiveUnlike the UK, in the states there is not a bookie on every corner within the US.
But americans love gambling and there is money to be made!
Yes, the US gaming market is on an upwards rise and has been for the past five years… the trend is set to continue.

Hi SimonI saw these when you posted them on another thread – but the geographic fixation that these bookies have with a bonus for North American customers only is a real turn off.
:Cry:North American visitors only make up 15%-20% of my site – I’m not going to spend any time promoting a bookie that tells 80-85% of my visitors that they’re not worth of a bonus.
Honestly – this are graphically pretty landing pages – but the actual content on the bonuses is a big turnoff for me as an affiliate – especially as the World Cup is a global event.
:sarcasm:May 31, 2006 at 10:13 pm #693907AnonymousInactiveYou are correct in stating we are a north american sportsbook and the World Cup is a global event. Our bonus has been set at 10% as a form of free play given to the players as we have found large bonuses have been turn off for players in the past because it is hard for them to cashout becuase of playthrough requirments etc…
I plan to update the landing pages to put the main focus on ‘in game betting’, prop bets etc… rather than the focus on bonuses.
I will research further into our bonueses and get back to you.
