Well, I moderated the Rakeback session in Amsterdam.

There were a lot of sparks flying and it was quite interesting.

To sum it up, more or less outspokenly, the rake back affs asked for our help.

They want us to help them put pressure on the poker programs to put a cap on rakeback.

Why? Because new eager rake back affs are entering the field and underbidding the older ones. Just like I predicted last year.

The rakebackers have been around for 18 months now, and they feel threatened.

    Now let me think….hmmmmm….

I rank well in poker and get lots of peple looking for info and strategies. I train them to be decent poker players, on my site. I get them as initial signups. As soon as they become really profitable, a rake backer steals them.

Now there are new rake backers stealing from the 18 month rakebackers.

Let me think real hard – should I protect the 18monthers frm the newbies?

    Emmmm – NO!!!!

    Another interesting point.

Communally, we could end rakeback asap.

The rooms do NOT like it hugely advertised. They want it to be an insider thing for large players, passed by word of mouth. Hush hush.

They are scared to death that all players will want rakeback.

Hmmm, yes, should we all decide to do rakeback and plaster it all over the search engines, it will stop asap.

    Interesting, no?

BTW, if you are a non rake back aff and you have suffered losses, don’t fret too much. The biggest rake back affs are indeed routing a huuuuge number of players, but rake back is so customer service intensive that they have to hire a ton of people to run it. THEY ARE NOT MAKING VERY MUCH MONEY!!!

It just makes all of poker a less profitable propositon for all but the player.

    Looking forward to your thoughts!

We always said that. As a business model Rakeback sucks and is a profit black hole.

Now that black hole is swallowing up the affiliates who created it. That’s good send us a post card from the other side of the universe.

Oh, cant afford a stamp anymore… what a shame :hehe:

Emmmm – NO!!!!I agree completely. We should do absolutely nothing for the rakeback affiliates. They ruined it for those of us who knew rakeback was a bad idea from the start; the last thing I’m going to do is help them out during their “time of need.”

I refuse to offer rakeback, which puts me at a competitive disadvantage. Now the rakeback affs want us to help them maintain their competitive advantage? HAH! I don’t think so. Tempting offer, though. :woo-hoo:

If we have the power to end it, we should. I don’t quite understand how the rooms would be affected one way or another, though. If an affiliate offers money out of his own pocket, that doesn’t affect the bottom line of the room; it only affects the affiliate. Or am I missing something?

Rakeback has always been a slippery slope, and now it appears we are reaching the point of the slope where the slipping can’t be stopped. Sorry guys, but you should have seen this coming. And if you think the non-rakeback affiliates are going to help you maintain your competitive advantage, you must be smoking crack. :rasta:

Rakeback is not generating new players.

Without non rakeback affiliates the industry is dead.

All during the discussion the rooms sat in the back trying to be invisible.

Micro forbids rakeback affs to publicly advertise that prima allows rakeback.

Yet Prima even has a built in feature allowing RB affs to calculate the rake.

Now some 15% of players get rakeback. I am told by rooms that once t reaches 50% they are dead.

Rakeback players get higher comissions in order to pay 35% of the rake to the players. Some pay 50% and still make a few % profit.

Rakeback afiliates are given all the advantages and being treated special.

Rooms are terrified of us claiming top google space for lots of poker keywords with RAKEBACK added in.

Even a room that has been trying to tell me for a year in dozens of mails that rakeback can and will coexist and offered me all kinds of things if only I adapted that stance – they came crawling and telling me I was right and they were wrong.

Rooms use rakeback to steal whales from one another, that is its only purpose.

    They want it hush hush.

The software provders will put an end to it asap if the hush hush went out of it.
