Hey guys,
I’ve noticed over the past several months that I have a lot of hits from Reston, Virginia on a couple of my sites. It appears to be a real person or persons, and I don’t mind having a ‘sticky’ site However, it seems quite unusual as it is always a slightly different IP in the same zone and it is fairly frequent.
Is anyone else noticing this? Has anyone looked into it before I try to figure out what is going on?
Thanks.

Their IP addresses change multiple times in a single session. Depending on the sophistication of your stats system, one AOL user might show up as 10 different visitors from Reston, VA.

However, the one thing that I noticed is that I NEVER have a referrer URL when a Reston, VA user is on my site. It always has my own website as the referrer.
I just don’t get it. I did notice that it was from aol, though.

So, for the 10 seemingly different visitors I mentioned above, the first one might show a search engine or something else as a referrer, and the other 9 (that are really the same person) will show up as being on your site already. Their IP addresses change on the fly.
I’m not sure how often they switch… it’s not a page to page thing, but it’s pretty frequent.
