Hi
For some reason my site doesn’t appear with MSN. Its fine with Yahoo and Google and I’ve added it to MSN using their add url page about 6 weeks ago.
I’m a little baffled and could do with some advice! Thanks :hattip:
p.s. My site is linked in my signature
February 2, 2006 at 9:57 pm #682524AnonymousInactiveI found MSN just tended to follow Yahoo gradually. Didnt do anything specific. That said, i wouldn’t worry too much for now – even first page SERPS only get me about 1/gazillionth of Google traffic for the same term *sigh*
February 3, 2006 at 2:42 am #682538AnonymousInactiveThe problem is you don’t have any backlinks. Don’t even bother submitting your site through the Add URL function, just go out and exchange a few links with other sites. Search engines prefer to find sites by following links from other sites. You should show up in a week or so after doing that.
February 3, 2006 at 5:56 pm #682575AnonymousInactiveYour sign in your post will be enough at least to be listed.
Search for links for the future, but the above is enough for your listing propose.February 3, 2006 at 6:51 pm #682586AnonymousInactiveThe interesting thing about MSN is that they seem to be so much faster at indexing sites and updating sites than the other two engines, if you have links. Yahoo is so painfully slow at crawling and updating their SERP’s that it’s absured.
February 5, 2006 at 1:55 am #682699AnonymousInactiveUse Submit it
(The directory does not allow casinos; but the submission portion does.)
February 5, 2006 at 2:45 am #682704AnonymousInactiveGoogle updates your pages in hours once you are in there good. MSN is much easier to get started with. Yahoo – boy, they take for ever and ever.
February 5, 2006 at 5:24 am #682708AnonymousInactiveWell this does not have anything to do with your current situation. But I do find it odd MSN is taking so long to index your site.
I took a glance, at some of your pages, I stress some. I found a few spelling errors
favourite
gloassary
recognisedAlso impropper domain extension %20 should not be there. There is a empty space somewhere.
Online_Reviews_Gaming%20Club.htm
On your link page all the links are 404, broken. Not a good idea to have broken links. You aslo need to add in some “alt” tags and set parameters.
Just offering some brief insight, in case you did not already realize these problems. Give the sight a good going over. Do not expect to get all the bugs out its impossible.
Get a higher ranking by minimizing the href= this is in my opinion junk code. Use it only when you have to. The bots see the the link take out the href= or some of them your content weight will increase. greek39
February 5, 2006 at 10:56 am #682710AnonymousInactiveHi
Thanks to Simmo, Webber286, Villa10, Randy, Casinosca, Domonique and Greek39 for taking the time to look at my site and reply to this post.
Its raised some interesting issues which I need to sort out.
Greek39 –
thanks for pointing out the spelling issues and link problems. I’ve now fixed the link issues. In realtion to the spelling, that’s how we spell ‘favourite’ and recognise’ over this side of the water. However, as the site is targeted to US $ customers, I’ll need to get on and change this to the US spelling.
The %20 issue is something which I’ve only really just noticed as well.
I’m a little confused by taking out the href code. Are you saying that there are too many links in my site, or that I should be using alternative code for the links?
Thanks
Buddy
February 5, 2006 at 1:54 pm #682720AnonymousInactiveFor the href I sometimes take them out, not always. For casinos I promote sometimes I use all the html provided to link to their site. Another way is if the affiliate provides a gif image I will copy paste the image then as link will enter the http with my aff tag.
Why do this? in a sense its a little deceptive because some bots won’t pick it up as a link. The less outgoing links the more optimized your site is. Html allows for this. Its a little complicated, but if you read up on what the html href= is for you come to realize this piece of code is sometimes harmful.
Also an example of what not to do. I made this mistake and leanrt from it. I have one page with the extention /what_is_online_poker.html my link popularity for this page is zero. The PR for the page is 3.
I speculate that my url extension has stop words in it, such as, a, what ect…
I beleive stop words like I found on your site like “to” could pontentially damage your link popularity. Most of these ideas I derived from intense study of Google, MSN, and Yahoo straight from the horses mouth.
I am mostly confused, these are the only answers I can come up with to explain why my site ranks high cosidering I went live I June 2005. My keywords for example, on going bonuses is in the the top ten on google out of 6 million pages. But this is happenning for all my keywords I used Microgaming Bonuses top ten on Google. The list goes on. Its all confusing to me.
But don’t be discouraged but taking the time to learn a few things for yourself goes a long way. Good luck buddy and remember my site has errors too! greek39
February 5, 2006 at 6:53 pm #682740AnonymousInactiveThere is also a lot of luck and timing involved. I have similar sites with similar content and similar keywords.
Some do well in MSN.
Some do better in Yahoo.
A few do Best Google.
Some sites take a year to get any traffic and/or ranking; I have had a few new sites to go from page rank 0 to Page Rank 4 in five weeks. Others that have had page rank 0 for 9 months.
My advice is to try about 10 sites on several different IPs and see what works.

Greek, without ever seeing what you are talking about, much of this makes no sense to me at all.
I assume you are never talking about the site below.
February 5, 2006 at 11:40 pm #682764AnonymousInactivehey Dominique its great to have you back!! of course I am not talking about the site below. Thats a casino site that I am working on. thanks greek39
February 17, 2006 at 10:04 pm #683835AnonymousInactiveGreek,
I think you may be onto something with filenames that have spaces ->%20’s and problems getting indexed in MSN. I am doing a test on this right now and will post the results once I am certain-BUT Google and Yahoo do not have any problems with these types of filenames.
But, I have to take issue with your page names (.html files) having stop words that can cause problems. I often name my pages the title of the article on that page. So if I make a page with an article entitled, “What is an Online Casino” I may very well name it ../what_is_an_online_casino.html and I have NEVER EVER had a problem naming my files this way.
This has just been my experience, so take my comments for what they’re worth.
Original Poster,
Your site appears incomplete. I am not seeing any Body yet in IE6 and you have many broken links. I would ask for another critique once you have developed your site more fully. Good luck!!
February 18, 2006 at 4:39 am #683857AnonymousInactiveBecause of the way our site is built (dynamically) we have several pages with spaces in the URL (or %20). Hadn’t paid attention to MSN before, but they don’t appear to be able to index those pages properly. Google and Yahoo have no problem with it however. Bummer, missing out on some traffic there.
