    Greetings from Norway,

I had 2 websites up promoting online casinos and I used .no domains. After 6 months the goverment send me an email telling me that it is illegal to promote online casinos to norwegians. Offcourse they want to advertise for their own games here in Norway and they say that because none of the money made by the online casinos are helping or are giving donations to help people, charity, it is illegal.

Now, I put my sites down as fast as I could, dont wanna get into troubel, but I thought, what if I advertised to norwegians through .com with an american host? I will still be writing the text in norwegian. Will it be legal?

Thanks in advance for answers on this subject

Norway is a very rich country. The citizens get 8 weeks paid holidays a year, medical bills are paaid for by the Govenrnment. A life of luxury in terms of money wealth is froned upon.

The Government there enforces this culture. For example driving a Porche in Norway mostly froned upon. The taxes for luxury item such as a brand new Porche 911 Carrera would be around $60,000.

Per capita Norway citizens are the wealthiest, in terms of money, on earth.

Government restrictions for online gambling would be very tight. greek39

Not only the domain, but also the hosting must be located outside of Norway. Then you shouldn’t experience any problems I think.

    Hello HOlkaPolka27

It’s tricky as I imagine that you’re based in Norway and so well within their legal clutches if they do decide to take you and your sites and make an example of them.

Writing in Norweigian could be rightly considered to be targetting Norway … so even if it is a .com and hosted in the United States I’m not sure that you are “legal”.

I’m based in New Zealand and we have a somewhat similar situation. It is illegal to run a sports betting organisation in New Zealand – and the state-run TAB has a monopoly.

A similar arguement is used – a percentage of the take goes to goernment in taxes – and another percentage is actually returned back to the local sports bodies.

However – there is a big difference – as it is NOT illegal to promote sports gambling of overseas companies here. That would plainly be a breach of basic individual rights.

I’d try to seek some sort of clarification … although in doing so you may draw attrention to yourself and your plans … and sometimes is easier to simply play “under their radar” ?

    Good luck my friend.

is not promote casinos directly on the site but rather ask them to join my newsletter. It will be more discret. It is sad to see that the goverment encourages people to play on their goverment games rather than my online casinos as you can win much higher amounts playing through me. I think 50% is the payout rate for norwegian goverment games.

Ive already drawn attention to my business in norway and im afraid to get busted again. Who knows, they might even consider sending me to jail.

Yes. There is an extra point of analysis in those countries in which the gambling is in the hands of the state.

Allways is the risk that they can put in the same level the offshore gambling with the domestic illegal betting.

IMO if you have those concerns a solution could be the setup of an offshore corporation.

Not sure but i think that is possible to block all IP’s from norway too.

I come from Greece, well, I was born in Norway where I want to market my online casinos, but I also have a greek citizen passport. My name is actually Antreas Xarkiolakis in norwegian it is Andreas Harkiolakis and what I was wondering about was:

Isnt that just as having an offshore corporation? I mean if i have a .com domain , american hosting (brinkster.com) and the place to add the info at my domain registar, contact info and so on, if i add my greek name and greek house adresse (have a house down there) can they get me?

For me that sounds just as good as having an offshoure business/corporation.

I would appreciate any response on this subject matter, i emailed Wayne over at ReferBack.com but no response as of yet.

If your a greek citizen with residence in Norway, then you have the same duties than the nationals of that country.

If you have already a warning from the government at this stage you are playing with fire.

You are far of the status of an offshore Corp.

The only for you IMO is to set up the Offshore Company.
Buy a domain in the name of the Offshore co.
    Same with the hosting.
If possible nominee directors, and a power attorney for you.

Anyway if the website is in norway language, there’s allways the risk of some prosecution for your gamblers.

    Just my 2 cents!

Advertising here in Norway is difficult. Norwegian people know their rights and rules, spam complaints are many and the goverment will not allow foreign games. I am playing with fire here :bath: so I decide not to advertise since I already have a warning.

Sad though, loosing all those players as the casino market in norway is great.
