VW Strays from Apple

[via Engadget] In our Portable Music Players report [clients only], we spent some time talking about the value of Apple’s proprietary iPod docking interface. Apple’s been doing a great job encouraging other companies to build aftermarket accessories based on the proprietary dock, effectively locking non-iPod devices out of the MP3 player aftermarket — and thereby making the iPod even more attractive. This has been especially true in the automotive space. BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Ferrari are all offering or planning to offer a proprietary iPod docking kit for their cars….
