What does it mean when people say their sites are PR3, PR4, etc. I assume this has something to do with page ranking in SE’s. Just looking for a little clarification.

Do you want your site with lower numbers IE: PR2, or do you want PR7 sites?

how do you improve this ranking?

    Thanks,

That sure is a can of worms..

Yes, Page Rank (Google) is supposed to be how popular your site is and is considered to be a view of how many important sites ‘vote’ for you.

For example, if a PR7 site has a link to you on their site.. It is considered a ‘vote’ for your site. It is an important ‘vote’ because they have a high PR (which is good). If a PR1 site ‘votes’ for you (puts up a link to your site), it does not have the weight of the PR7 link.

PR, imho, means very little…. Unless, of course, you want someone to ‘vote’ for you by putting up a link. Then…. it means just about everything – unless you have cash to pay for your links.

    Hope that helps.

PS – I think toolbar.google.com will get you the toolbar that shows page rank for the Firefox browser. Search Google for the IE version.

Yeah, Page Rank pertains to Google search engine optimization. Page Rank is updated about once every three months or so.

But I’ve got to say that page rank is just one of many ranking factors that determine how well you rank in Google, and you probably shouldn’t spend too much time worrying about it. As an example, I have a PR4 site, but put a backlink up on a site that had a PR of 0 (the worst PR). This site was hosted on a university web site and even though it was on a bad PR page, I was ranking better for it on Google than on my higher PR site.

Sorry, it’s a little confusing, I know. But the main point is don’t worry too much about it. If you’re interested, forums.seochat.com is a great place to learn about Google optimization.

In my opinion that is not so important.
As far I understand the more link exchanges the better the PR.

I have a non gambling site with 100s of visitors daily that has a PR2.

One of my gambling sites had PR3, now is PR2 again but had and has only a handfull of visitors.

Should page rank refer to all search engines. For instane, on yahoo I am on page3. I am under the beleive that google’s page rank is nothing but a toy, meant for amusement. Is this what everyone talks about when they refer to pr is google? This I find disturbing because people use pr for many purposes, But forget about the other search engines put altavista and merge it with yahoo if your site ranks high on both is this not a good thing? If you combine the two engines would it not be a bigger saerch engine than google? Hey wouldn’t that be nice a merger between the 2nd and 3rd largest search engines.

Google page rank does not refer to where your page is on their search engine. It is an independent ranking factor that they have come up with (0 being lowest, 10 being highest). It’s supposed to be a level of credibility and importance that a website has. Instead, it’s just caused headaches for many a webmaster.

Yahoo and MSN do not have page rank.

I must ask myself what is the point of goolge’s page rank. So if I don’t have a pr the means my website lacks creditbility, isn’t that a slap in the face. As webmasters, for most, who spend an alot of time on their websites google has invented a spanking tool. I find this nuts. I can hardly wait for a search engine merger it will come one day. In fact this irritates me so much I am going to leave my link http://www.onlinegambling7.com this forum will be crawled and like most of the time my threads get picked up and displayed on google. If I am misunderstanding forgive me. greek39 :madat:

You aren’t the only one to question the necessity of Google’s page rank. But it turns out that it’s just one of the over hundred factors that Google takes into consideration when ranking a site.
You’ll also be “happy” to learn about the Google Sandbox, which frequently means that a new site will have to go through a trial period of anywhere from a few months to over a year before it becomes ranked in Google, especially when it’s optimized for a common keyword phrase.
Thank God for MSN and Yahoo in the meantime…

I could care less about my page rank.

I am also starting to look at serps instead of PR when linking.

PR is for the birds, and I am frankly not going to waste anymore thoughts on it. :tounge2:

I wish webmasters would begin to ingnore pr from google. I can not be bothered to play the pr game. I am flipping out. All our hard work is being chuck around by google in a meaningless way. I wonder what kind of porn sites have a pr. I would assume their pr is pretty good. Greek39 :madat:

You need to be indexed, and you need to link to sites that are similair to yours and have nice content and are indexed.

Just blowing off some steam. I am doing okay with the search engines, but at the same time I can’t stand injustice. I am getting link exchanges at good sites. I won’t mention the site but its been around for a long time The guy said consider the link exchange a done deal. I am still waiting for my link to show up on his site. I am a bit of a renegade, I seem to challenge the status quo. In all of this i do have good news I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to…. Thanks for the input greek39 from Canada eh!

It doesn’t mean your website lacks credibility, PR is supposed to be a reflection of your inbound links and their strength…says nothing about content. The idea being that an extremely important site has a lot of other sites linking to it, and those sites have lots of sites linking to them, on and on. Harder to manipualte now, and a lot less importance now than it once had, or so many people agree.
