WhenU Certified ‘Spyware-Safe’ by Aluria – Leader in Anti-Spyware Security

    Launches Consumer Education Web Site

NEW YORK and LAKE MARY, Fla., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ — WhenU, a leading
provider of software-based contextual online advertising and Aluria Software,
a developer of anti-spyware security solutions and the company that powers
AOL’s anti-spyware product, announced today that WhenU complies with Aluria’s
rigorous operational criteria. The certification admits WhenU into Aluria’s
Spyware SAFE Certification Program, which is designed to ensure websites and
applications are “free from malicious spyware.”
To be certified by Aluria, WhenU provided Aluria with a detailed review of
the WhenU standards for disclosure during the software installation process,
consumer control over WhenU software, 100% branding of WhenU ads, and a review
of the WhenU privacy policy and privacy protective technology architecture.
The Aluria Spyware SAFE Certification logo will now appear on WhenU’s website
and on all WhenU downloadable products.
WhenU is one of only a few advertising applications to be certified by
Aluria’s new Spyware SAFE Certification Program for downloadable software as
well as being the only contextual advertising application to meet the rigorous
    criteria for certification.
“Aluria is committed to protecting and educating consumers by ensuring
that the places they visit and download are free from spyware,” noted Rick
Carlson President of Aluria Software. “We are pleased to be a part of WhenU’s
efforts to differentiate itself in the contextual advertising marketplace.”
Recently appointed CEO of WhenU, Bill Day, who was co-founder and CEO of
About.com said, “WhenU is the first and only provider of software-based
advertising to receive such a certification. Frankly it surprised many people
because of a commonly held misperception that all competitors in this space
are essentially the same. Simply put they aren’t; WhenU standards are higher
and they are validated by the Aluria certification.”
WhenU has further substantiated its commitment to defining proper business
practices and educating consumers with the launch of a completely revamped web
site which includes a comprehensive Internet Advertising Resource Center that
clarifies and explains the entire spectrum of online advertising. The site
located at http://www.whenu.com will reflect the new Aluria certification.
WhenU has been an active supporter and a sponsor of the recently passed
HR2929 anti-spyware bill and adheres to all aspects of this important
legislation. WhenU does not track user or clickstream data, does not compile
a centralized database of users and does not engage in any type of user
    profiling.
WhenU’s unique advertising technology distinguishes itself from existing
online advertising approaches by applying precision logic at the desktop
level. From the desktop, WhenU software examines keywords, URLs and search
terms currently in use on the opted-in consumer’s browsers and then presents
highly relevant advertising and services. WhenU accomplishes this in a
fundamentally unique manner, keeping all user personally identified
information encrypted on the user’s computer and avoiding collecting any
browsing data — even anonymously — about individual users. For more
    information please visit http://www.whenu.com.

Very surprising, what are they thinking? :banger:

I honestly think that they are more worried about spyware being installed without the users knowledge more than anything. If WhenU is making the proper disclosures during the install process and afterward they are probably operating within the structured guidelines of the Aluria program. Its not WhenU’s fault that people dont or can’t read the disclosure before they install…

Yes but that is not what people use an adware removal tool for.

They expect the popups to be gone without having to use a popup blocker.

Aluria is a spyware remover you pay for – so they need to start disclosing that they do not remove all the spyware they find, only ones that don’t meet their criteria.

My feeling is that people would not purchase Aluria if they knew spyware would remain on their compter after use.

I think your right since the spyware definition isnt really dependent on the user having it installed without their knowledge…..
