On another note, it also appears there was a backlink update today.
February 4, 2005 at 10:06 am #661143AnonymousInactiveIt scares me when Google has the power…
It’s their search engine and they can do what they want, but being able to filter out sites by IP Blocks or ownership information can lead to abuse too.
What would prevent someone from falsifying ownership info on a domain so that it appears to be owned by their competition. Then that person could use the domain for spam etc. and effectively take out the competition.
February 4, 2005 at 4:22 pm #661153AnonymousGuestexactly! I always am worried about somebody sending out emails with my domain appearing as the sender, and then getting shut down because of complaints.
And all the while I would never have even known about the problem until it was too late.
one last thing, about google having the power; while God knows I have been round and round with them in respect to their adwords, but I have to say that so far; IMHO, I haven’t seen them playing favorites to anybody. at least not so that it was extremely plain to see.
So although they are definitely a breed apart; I think things could be a lot worse if somebody else held their position. Of course, it could IMHO be a lot better than it is too.
February 4, 2005 at 4:34 pm #661157AnonymousInactiveInteresting ideas in this list I thought:
http://www.circleid.com/article/930_0_1_0_C/February 15, 2005 at 9:29 pm #661651AnonymousInactiveIs it established that they would have access to the indentifying information of sites that were registered with other “official registrars?” I mean, I can’t see how this would benefit the other registrars, and could possibly be a liability to them. However, I don’t know too much about how ICANN works.
anyone know the answer to this?
February 15, 2005 at 11:00 pm #661654AnonymousInactiveexactly! I always am worried about somebody sending out emails with my domain appearing as the sender, and then getting shut down because of complaints.
And all the while I would never have even known about the problem until it was too late.
That happened to me just recently when someone hacked into my server and used one of the domains for phishing. Eventually the server was shut down because of zillions of bounces and complaints.
I had to start from scratch with a blank server, getting everything installed again….
