Are you planning to use a free domain hosted at Tripod?
I think that’s not a good thing. Why?
- You don’t have complete control over the site.
- Tripod puts loads of forced advertisement into your site. As I can se at least 30% of the site is for Tripod advertisement and for things not even related to gambling.
- You do not have a domain but only a subdomain. The lack of a domain can detrieve confidence for the end user.
- A lot of webmasters will not exchange links with you
- In terms of search engine position, I think it also hurts you, but maybe someone with more knowledge on SEO can confirm this.
I don’t know if you’re only planning your site and using Tripod for that, and thinking of having your own domain hosted elsewhere. If this is the case disregard what I said. If not, I would consider registering a new domain and hosting it elsewhere. $8 or less for a domain and $5/month for hosting and you will be far better.
February 4, 2005 at 7:45 pm #661163AnonymousInactiveGreat, hardcore honesty. That’s what I was hoping to get.
When I first went there I was put off by all the periphiel banners and advertisements that I had to include. But thought for a no capital investment why not try it and see if something could be developed anyways so I’d atleast get my finger into the batter bowl for a taste to see if I could produce a site. The other concern was accessability for visitors. Who would show up and use this site. I have no idea how to make that happen or where to start.
A friend is helping me and I’m learning. I knew it would as a subaffiliate as that is what I agreed to, so that wasn’t any surprise to me.
Thank you for taking the time to review my site and give me an honest response. Any other advice you may have would be greatly appreciated.
February 4, 2005 at 9:15 pm #661169AnonymousInactiveIf you’re going to run a site and can’t afford hosting, I recommend starting a blog on blogger.com. The ads are much less intrusive. (Limited to a Google search bar at the top.)

February 7, 2005 at 2:33 pm #661250AnonymousInactiveLook at http://www.webhostingtalk.com
You can find there reviews of hosting companies and usually all hosting companies are active members of the forums. You will find a hosting plan to fit your needs and for less.
Look at the webhosting offers forum, or post a new message with a hosting request. A lot of companies will offer you alternatives with very good prices.

February 14, 2005 at 5:42 am #661583AnonymousInactiveThanks all for your input. Sorry I haven’t been around lately been busy. I have been pondering that blog idea. I’ve updated the site since I was last here. One thing I discovered is I need to limit the amount of clickable links with those flash animations on each page as they tend to slow visitors computers upload to the page. I feel if visitors have to wait too long to upload they will abandon the site and move on to a more friendlier site.
Right now my page for poker sites and reviews has one too many clickable links and it’s noticable-not too bad-but noticable. Take another look if you like. To correct this I’m going to add a page for sports betting and move the one link over there where it belongs.
