Could adding an online forum to a gambling portal help it out, as far as getting return visitors? I realize that its hard work to get a forum rolling(as I have a few forums from my other non gambling sites.
Also, I see payout percentages on quite a few gambling portals, is this something the webmaster puts together his/herself or is there a place on the net that provides this content.
January 12, 2005 at 12:20 am #660008AnonymousInactiveThere has been threads like yours before. Forums are hard to launch.
Same her I have tried and it´s hard.
My forum has been a “newsletter” where i post news and so on.January 12, 2005 at 1:38 pm #660029AnonymousInactiveI am thinking of setting up a forum on my sites, too.
But imagine readers write URLs of casinos in the forum.
Others that read the forum click on the links and land on a casino with which you aren’t affiliated and sign up as real players.
That would be bad.
I mean, I could add my affiliate tag to eventual links but there still would be links without my tag so….
A little theoretic sounds that., doesn’t it?
How do you webmaster do that, that have a forum for players on the site?
We would appreciate more input to that topic.
January 12, 2005 at 3:21 pm #660033AnonymousInactiveAbout the payout percentage thing… I have them on my site, but only for 10 or 15 casinos probably. I do them all myself– go to each casino site, find them, and then put them on the page (I also break them into categories…slots/table games/etc.) It’s not that bad, except that I like to update them every month. I’m still trying to figure out a good way to do it, so that vistors can see a running record of all the months and compare, instead of just one month. It’s nothing fancy at all but it works for now.
This is my payouts page.About the forums.. my opinion is that, there’s nothing worse than going to a site, seeing they have forums, then visiting them, only to see that no one’s posted in a year! Even though the site might be very active, it leaves a bad impression.
Good luck with everything!January 12, 2005 at 3:36 pm #660035AnonymousInactiveA forum is a great thing if it’s active. Getting it active is tough. Beg your friends to participate, or offer backlinks to people who are willing to agree to make at least a post a day. Some people even sign up for multiple user names and post multiple times to give their forums an active look in order to encourage participation.
Doesn’t hurt to occasionally hold events like chats and poker tournaments in order to keep your forum participants active in the community too.
It’s a long slow process, but I bet if you ask Casinomeister or Winneronline if it’s worth it, they’d tell you, “Hell, yeah.”

That is a common problem – spamming of forums.
There are a whole slew of things that can happen in a forum that cause you problems – you can find yourself with a bully who ends up discouraging others from posting. You can have spammers, you can have belligerent people attacking you or the casinos you list in the forum. All kinds of things can happen – and no one in a forum wants people to be banned or censored.
Both Casinomeister and WOL have had to clean up their boards and ban people and post concise rules regarding posting behavior.
Running a message board can put you in some pretty unpopular positions. No matter how you handle those, someone will be unhappy.
Add in that it is really hard to get people to post – and a forum is a difficult project. Either it is hard to get it going, or it is hard to keep it going in the direction you want it to. No matter what, it’s a lot of work and headaches.
I don’t have any statistics on this, but forums that take off to the point where they actually make good money are a tiny minority, and they take full time management.
January 12, 2005 at 4:39 pm #660044AnonymousInactiveAll the problems that Dominique pointed out are things I deal with on a daily basis with my forum. Especially the spammers!

why not specify in the forum rules: “no links to other casinos” and if people still link to them, give them a warning, then ban them
January 12, 2005 at 6:57 pm #660058AnonymousInactiveIve found for the most part a small number of forums get 85%+ of the forum traffic as they are established forums. Potential forum users would much rather participate on an established forum that to join in on your new one.
Asking friends to post doesnt work either – they usually post once or twice and then vanish. I think I am going to give it another shot within the next month or so and if it doesnt get a bit busier Im just going to ditch the idea. Currently the forum gets “view” traffic, but no one is posting.
So hey join my forum and become a poster and I will hook you up with some nice links, or join your forum and post as well
