OKAY . . . got another doozie here . . . :sarcasm:
One of my affiliate programs does carry over negative balances…however, I have a compulsive gambler there who has been able to bail me out of just about anything, since he gambles like a maniac! Some months I make money, some months I wind up in the red !
The last several months have been up and down . up and down during the course of the month…always leaving me at the end of the month with a negative balance. At this particular time I have a $1400 negative balance. Not to worry…I know in the long run the casino is going to wind up the winner, and I will make money as well.
However, . . . now the affiliate manager contacts me and advises me to go in and open a new account and they will close out the old one. . . :huh2: . . I have had this account for 3 years and have built up quite a few players, not to mention Mr. Gambling Maniac!
This sounds like a crock to me . . . sounds like they want this guy all to themselves. They make it sound as though they are trying to do me a favor since it is this guy who is putting me in a negative situation month after month.
What is the opinion of all the experts here?
Do I need to get STUPID tattoed on my forehead or what?
October 15, 2004 at 5:12 pm #656297AnonymousInactiveWell . . . Crap ! :unhappy:
C’mon you guys . . . you always have opinions!
Just tell me like it is . . . you are not going to hurt my feelings.
If you think I’m really being stupid wanting to hang on to “Gambling Guy” just tell me.
Should I keep the players I have . . . or should I take the affiliate manager up on his offer to dump the negative balance and open a completely new account?
Doesn’t sound completely ethical, which is why I question his suggestion.
I could really use your input on this! :eh:
October 15, 2004 at 5:49 pm #656298AnonymousInactiveThat’s a tough one. If you suspect the program is dishonest, it’s not going to matter whether you open a new account or not.
October 15, 2004 at 6:18 pm #656301AnonymousInactiveThanks for responding Randy,
I honestly don’t know what to think! :dontget:
I have gotten some really nice checks from them in the past, but as I mentioned, for the past several months I have been in this negative balance situation.
I just figured sooner or later my compulsive gambling guy will start losing a bunch of money again and…voila…I will be out of the red and back in business.
Now that they have made this offer I have to wonder what they’re thinking. I mean they just don’t go around telling all their affiliates to go in and get a new account once they have gotten into a negative situation. Ya Think ?
Maybe they realize that sooner or later the guy will start losing again and they will be obligated to send me my share…??
This is what makes me wonder if the reason they are offering me an out so they can have my guy and all of his money all to themselves.
You’re right . . . this is a tough one!
October 15, 2004 at 6:22 pm #656302AnonymousGuestThis is probably a question for an affiliate manager, since they know this business from the other side.
It is a very tough question, for sure.
What programs still give affiliate negative carry-over?
As an aside (off the topic) – you know those players who win big, then don’t return? It occurs to me that, if a player wins tens of thousands and our accounts are set to zero…..then the player returns the next month to lose it all back, that gives the casino a double whammy – paying out a big win twice (once to the player, and again to the affiliate in commissions). That may very well be why some of these players vanish.
October 15, 2004 at 6:43 pm #656307AnonymousInactiveIt makes a difference who the program is. If you don’t want it public, please leave me a PM.
October 15, 2004 at 8:32 pm #656326AnonymousGuestHi,
Very, very seldom should you encounter a winner month after month after month.
If not for you saying you’d been paid some nice checks, I’d say they were cheating you and you should dump them.
However, without knowing the program; I would guess you’re better off keeping the old account.
How much are you in the negative? $1400 is nothing, make that up in a month’s time.
October 15, 2004 at 9:11 pm #656334AnonymousInactiveI would surmise that THIS player is NOT the only player you have in your account. WHY would you want to have them close an account that has active players?
I agree without knowing who your dealing with its tough to give a complete opinion of the matter, but I will say that it sounds a little fishy. I would NOT close out an active account!
Floppy – I love your big winner vanishing theory.
October 16, 2004 at 5:12 pm #656361AnonymousInactiveGood Morning,
Thanks everybody for sharing your opinions.
Fergie . . I love your theory . . I’m sure you’re probably right!
bb1webs . . you’re right. I was much further in the negative than that. Then I was actually up to only $200 negative . . and now further in the hole again.
arkyt . . yes, I do have other players . . just seems like it’s always the gambling fool who really makes or breaks me every month. When he loses big I get a nice check. On the other hand, when he wins big he wipes out all other commissions.
And yes . . the offer really does sound a bit fishy. :hmmm:
October 16, 2004 at 5:18 pm #656363AnonymousInactiveIf it is a decent program it will remove that player from your account upon request rather than close the account.
October 16, 2004 at 6:23 pm #656365AnonymousInactiveIf that is the ONLY player affecting you in a major way, maybe the program will in fact open you up a new account
However I would ask for them to move this player to the new account and keep all the other players and your current urls the same. A win win situation for you Course I doubt they would be willing to do that.
October 16, 2004 at 6:40 pm #656367AnonymousInactiveThat sounds perfect, Arkyt!
