Unhealthy elements promote Chinese online gaming

THE MOUTHPIECE of the Chinese government said that the country must develop its own online gaming industry because imported games have unhealthy elements, although what these are remain unclear.
The People’s Daily said that China will invest RMB$2 billion in a push to create its own national online games “to guide youngsters positively” using colourful Chinese culture and virtues. The colour is probably red.
According to the organ, sales of online games in China soared to RMB$1.32 billion last year, while in the first six months of 2004 online game sales were RMB$1.55 billion.
By the end of this year there will be 30 homegrown online games available in China, the paper said.
