Wisconsin lawyer Bruce Meagher, has been convicted for his participation in an offshore Internet sports betting operation. He received a six-month suspension of his law license by the WI State Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR).
Meagher’s six-month suspension was imposed retroactive to November, when Meagher received a temporary suspension of his license.
The suspended lawyer, Meagher, in a stipulated agreement with the OLR, has agreed to the six-month suspension as a sanction for his part in the sports betting operation and for a separate complaint in which he represented two clients which claimed he had competing interests in a business venture.
He was convicted of one count of violating the Federal Wire Wagering Act in April 2002 and sentenced to one month in prison and five months of home confinement, besides a fine of $20,000.
