For me it would be…
- would you look poorly on my sites if I had 10 sites on the same IP?
- what do you call a bad neighbourhood?
- how many links a day can i get to a page without getting in trouble?
If you could ask Google a couple of questions.. what would they be?

I can try and answer these myself.
You can have as many sites on the same IP address if you are not cross linking them all or pointing all the sites to one site. Having 1 dog related site pointing to your other dog related site is ok as it is related and is something that looks natural.
A bad neighbourhood site would be a site that either has loads of poor quality links and has not authority, or that does alot of link exchanges with poor quality sites or other sites that have been hacked or is doing dodge stuff.
A site such as Google that has tons of visitors that is years and years old will get 1000s of links a day probably so if your site is good quality and would gain natural links then that site could get an infinite amount of links per day really.
I do not interlink sites I own, except for the occasional in context link to more complete information on another of my sites.
A bad neighborhood site to me is any site that dodges google guidelines in some way.
Number of links per day – not something I ever worried about as I don’t sell them or buy them or anything. My main site is ancient and has a lot of natural links over the years, but definitely not 1000 a day. If I am lucky I get one every other day.
But – my site is old and established and trusted and I understand things look a lot different when starting new sites, which I do periodically. When I do that, I still just slowly grow a lot of content. I never expect to make any money off new sites for a couple of years to come and just take it easy and grow them in a very natural pattern.
I don’t have any “disposable” sites, so to me it’s “the faster they rise, the harder they fall”. I like to take it slow and play it safe.
I guess it’s just a business model, because you obviously can make money with “disposable” sites that rise fast, make money, and then disappear and get replaced. Me, I don’t like doing things over and over again. I like some good stable sites that bring consistent income for many years to come.
Putting up 20 sites and then linking between the 20 imo creates a link wheel, and therefore a bad neighbourhood. That’s why I am not exactly a fan of “link to me, and i’ll link to you” – only if there only separate “networks.”
I’ve also read that bad networks can be good networks. Meaning, that if you are a finance site, and you get links from a health page – for you thats a bad network – eg stay in your neighborhood.
BTW, you can ask Google these questions yourself at any SEO conference they are speaking at.
