December 31, 2009 (CAP Newswire) – For the past year or so, the American state of Kentucky has been waging a war against online gambling. Led by the governor, Steve Beshear, a movement to seize 141 internationally owned online poker domain names is still making its way through court (despite an early defeat, the case is currently in appeal).
Interesting, then, that the latest big winner of the U.S. lottery Powerball game happens to be a resident of Kentucky — and the sum won, over $125 million, is the biggest Kentucky lottery jackpot of all time.
Will Governor Beshear make any statement on this event, especially as it tends to point out the hypocrisy of the Kentucky government’s goal of outlawing online gambling? Unlikely, but the event could amount to more public support for gambling and therefore contribute to hurting Kentucky’s anti-online gambling crusade’s legal position.
