888 and Harrah's Partner Up

September 11, 2009 (CAP Newswire) – Harrah’s Entertainment, the U.S land-based casino giant, will use 888 software when it expands its online gaming activities into Europe, it was reported today.

“888 said its Dragonfish unit would support the British launch and roll-out of World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Caesars Casino brands, both owned by Harrah's, the world's largest gaming firm,” reported Reuters today. 888 is the second-largest gaming company in the United Kingdom.

"It's an amazing deal if the U.S. market opens up to online gaming one day and it's a good deal even if it's Europe only," 888 CEO Gigi Levy told Reuters. "We have more big American deals in the pipeline for the B2B unit."

There was an immediate increase of 10 to 15 percent for 888’s shares, which had lost about a quarter of their overall value during the past three months.

Harrah’s has been carefully putting together a plan for entering the online casino market, including increasing its involvement in U.S. gaming-based politics and hiring a former PartyGaming executive to head up a new Internet-directed subgroup (currently operating out of Canada).

Financial details of the 888/Harrah’s deal have not yet been revealed, but Levy said it was worth "millions of dollars".
